Urgent warning to allergy sufferers as Iceland recalls Mars Dessert Bar

Iceland shoppers have been advised to check their freezers after the supermarket issued an urgent recall of a Mars Dessert Bar, as it might be dangerous for peanut and egg allergy sufferers.

Some of the packs of the family-sized ice cream bar, which is on sale for £8, have been incorrectly packed with Snickers Dessert Bars, meaning the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts and/or an allergy or intolerance to egg. Neither of the allergens are declared on the Mars dessert packaging.

The affected batch is:

Pack size: 600g

Best before: February 23, 2024

Iceland Foods has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also put up notices in its shops, explaining to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

The notice advises customers who have bought the product not to eat if they are allergic to either eggs or peanuts. If you have bought the above product and need to return it, take it back to any Iceland store for a full refund. For further details or if you have any questions, you can contact the customer care team on 0800 328 0800.

Products can be recalled for lots of different reasons - for example, possible contamination, misleading or incorrect labels or, as in this case, allergens.

If you've bought a product that's been recalled, you have the right to a refund thanks to the Consumer Rights Act. The retailer that sold it should offer you a full refund, even if it's been in your cupboard or freezer for a while. Even if you've already consumed the product or thrown it away, you are still entitled to a refund if you can provide proof of purchase such as a receipt, bank statement, or online order confirmation.
