Urgent warning as dog dies and 7 more ill after mystery 'chemical' found on grass

A pet walking and grooming service have issued a warning to dog walkers about a possible chemical which has reportedly killed one dog and left seven others ill.

The Pet Shack warned pet-owners that grassy areas at and around pitches in Renmore area of Galway, Ireland, appeared to have "some kind of pellets" strewn across them.

They also claimed in the post that "seven dogs are sick at the vet and one has sadly passed away".

The post claims that "some kind of chemical/poison/pest control/pellets on the Renmore pitches".

The Pet Shack urged locals walking pets in Renmore to avoid the areas on and around the pitches and advised those who may have walked their dogs or other animals in those areas to wash their feet, reports GalwayBeo.

The warning in full reads: "Some kind of chemical/poison/pest control/pellets on the Renmore pitches. 7 dogs are sick at the vet and one has sadly passed away.

"AVOID walking around those pitches esp over by the GAA club where there was a pile of grass and what looks like some kind of pellets. It has just been cleared by locals.

"If your dog was there over the weekend wash their paws now! Did you notice them eat anything? Watch for any changes and call your vet tomorrow for advise if you are worried or know your dog was there and esp if offlead as you may not have seen them eat something or go near that area.

"Please tell anyone you know who is not on Facebook.

"Information has been passed onto me by a few locals. We do not know if it is from the pile in the photo only or across the pitches."

A follow-up post also claims that The Pet Shack reached out to Galway City Council to confirm the use of pellets in the area.

The Pet Shack also said they would consult the vet once tests had been carried out in order to determine the cause of the canine illnesses and tragic death.
