Urgent thunderstorm warning for Dublin and 16 other counties with flooding risk

A Status Yellow thunderstorm warning has been issued for Dublin and 16 other counties.

The warning affects all of Leinster as well as Waterford, Tipperary, Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan. It is in place from 8am this morning until 9pm tonight.

Heavy rain showers with thunderstorms are likely today, with Met Eireann warning of possible spot flooding, poor visibility, difficult travelling conditions.

The UK Met Office has also issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for Northern Ireland from 2pm until 10pm today. They warned that thunderstorms may lead to some disruption to travel later this afternoon and early evening.

Tomorrow is also expected to bring further rain showers to Dublin, some of which may turn heavy during the afternoon and evening. The morning will be fairly dull, but it will gradually brighten up through the day with some decent sunny spells expected later.

Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees in light to moderate northwesterly breezes.
