An urgent recall and allergen alert has been issued for popular food and drink products sold in Irish supermarkets.
A batch of Roosters Gluten Free Breaded Chicken Fillet Goujons sold in Aldi is being recalled due to the presence of Salmonella.
Salmonella can lead to diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody, and other symptoms such as fever, headache and abdominal cramps.
Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission.
The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.
The following batches are affected by the recall:
211216, 16:00:00, 16.12.2021; best before date: 16.12.2022
Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in Aldi stores supplied with the implicated batch.
Additionally, an allergen alert has been issued for the Desperados Original Beer flavoured with Tequila six pack.
This is because the for individual bottles have been not labelled in English, unlike the outer packaging.
Customers who are allergic to or intolerant of cereals containing gluten have been warned against consuming the beer as it contains barley which has not been declared on the bottles in English.
The implicated batches include products with batch code 1356528H with a best before date of 12-2022 and batch code 1334528S with a best before date of 11-2022.
"In line with its commitment to transparent labelling, HEINEKEN Ireland notified the Food Safety Authority (FSAI) and is withdrawing the small number of impacted batches (1,000 cases) from retailers.
"A further unsold 8,000 cases are held in our depot and will not be released for sale."
