Urgent message issued to everyone renting property in Scotland

People who rent property in Scotland has been issued an update regarding their deposit.

Starting this week, SafeDeposits Scotland has introduced a "brand new system". The tenancy deposit scheme was offline temporarily while the new system was put in place, but is once again accessible.

Everybody who has an email address registered with SafeDeposits Scotland, whether they are tenants or landlords, will receive an activation email from the company. This email will contain information on how to activate an account on the new system.

These steps must be taken before you are able to access SafeDeposits Scotland on its new system. According to the organisation, this will take "no more than a couple of minutes", however.

For those who require assistance gaining access to SafeDeposits Scotland can get in touch with them at 0333 321 3136. The company stated: "We will also be keeping our lines open until the later time of 7:00pm tomorrow and on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week to accommodate any potential increase in volume of calls resulting from the system downtime".

SafeDeposits Scotland continued: "We believe our new system is even easier to use than the previous one, however we know that any change can take a bit of getting used to. We've prepared a number of guidance resources to help support customers in navigating the new system should they require these.

"Videos are available on our YouTube channel now, and as soon as the new system goes live tomorrow morning you will be able to access a variety of guidance documents within the Tools and Guide section of our new Resource Centre."
