LOS ANGELES — National Rugby Qualifying Programs Gather in March 2024 to Promote Equity, Access, and Opportunity. The event will bring together players, coaches, and mentors from all backgrounds and skill levels. The goal is to create a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone can thrive and reach their full potential. The event is a unique opportunity for rugby players from all walks of life to come together and experience the transformative power of the sport. It is also a chance to promote equity, access, and opportunity in rugby.
The Urban Rugby Championship (URC) third edition is confident to carry on it’s mission to implement and deliver it’s promises to players, programs and the entire community it brings together with transformative experiences. It also ensures that all students from all races can access the best rugby game can offer. Dallas Youth Rugby acquired the URC Belt in Memphis, TN in 2022 tournaments. This year the finals were expected to take place in Los Angeles, CA but a rare weather condition prevented it from happening.
Washington DC Urban Rugby Championship 2024 highlights:
“University Sojourn: At Howard University, one of the nation’s most renowned historically Black universities, rugby athletes, mentors, and ambassadors will interact with students and share the sport’s passion with them.
Engagement with Elementary & Junior High Schools: Participants will build community, inclusivity, and excitement through rugby exhibitions and interactive sessions with local elementary and junior high school students in Washington DC. The purpose of this initiative is to introduce rugby to young children with representative near-peers and to raise awareness about rugby.
Exploring Key Washington DC Sites: During the week, the Urban Rugby Championship will tour the city with their coaches, mentors, and teammates, creating new connections and exploring the rich and complex history of our nation’s capital.
Full-Day 7’s Tournament: Saturday, March 9th, 2024, will be the culmination of the championship, featuring a daylong, action-packed 7’s tournament. “Rugby teams from across the nation will compete for the 2024 URC title,” said the Urban Rugby America announcement.

Our mission has consistently revolved around utilizing rugby to inspire, educate, and empower youth in underserved communities. This year’s championship guarantees an even more significant impact, with visits to local universities, elementary and middle schools, and significant city landmarks, culminating in a thrilling all-day 7’s tournament,” said Kevin Battle Event Organizer.
