As long as there are openings in the American football world, whether college or NFL, and as long as former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer is still stomping around without a whistle around his neck, there will be speculation whether Meyer will get back into coaching.
Scratch that — his chances at coaching in the NFL are probably over because of the outhouse spill that was him in charge of the Jacksonville Jaguars last year. However, he’s proven at the college level, and many programs would love to at least reach out and kick the tires.
Buy Buckeyes TicketsIt’s also hard to take the competitive spirit out of a coach like Meyer. He’s been out of the game before and couldn’t pass up opportunities, so it’s not like we’re dealing with something unprecedented here if he were to get back in the game.
According to him though, that ship may have sailed, especially after what we all witnessed during his first NFL gig. While appearing on the “All Things Covered” podcast hosted by Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson and former Steelers corner Bryant McFadden, Meyer was asked if he ever sees himself back on the sidelines.
“No desire,” Meyer said on the podcast. “Of course, I would’ve done some things differently.”

Meyer also dived into the success that Jacksonville had this season after he was forced out and touched on the talent he believes quarterback Trevor Lawrence is. He also discussed how he got back into coaching after retiring from Ohio State when it looked like that would close the book on his career.
“I was done,” Meyer said. “I was retired. I had some health issues at Ohio State … I got approached by a few (NFL) teams and this team really appealed to me,” Meyer said. “Trevor Lawrence, who might be a Hall of Famer some day, he’s that good. Obviously it didn’t go well, but I had no plans of doing that at all. It just happened.”
At this point, maybe Meyer is best suited for the analyst position he has in television. He joined Fox after his exit from Columbus and was hired again after being fired by Jacksonville. He has been a great addition. He’s entertaining, extremely knowledgeable and engaging in the studio.
