Upstate New York is an amazing place to ride a motorcycle. Expansive valleys are lined with rivers and bookended by beautiful lakes. The Adirondack Park in northern New York State, in particular, offers spectacular scenery, occupies more than six-million acres, and is the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States.
So, if you’re looking to explore this part of the Empire State, the team from Backcountry Discovery Routes just released the Adirondacks BDR-X, a 700-mile adventure route looping Adirondack Park.
The route was designed to incorporate approximately 50% pavement, while the other half is made up of lightly-maintained seasonal roads, as well as the occasional rocky, sandy, or muddy backroad, depending on the season.
According to the BDR, the route showcases the "majestic beauty of the tight forested canopy" that is found throughout the countless state and wild forests of the Adirondacks.
In typical BDR fashion, the route is broken up into multiple sections (six for this route), with fuel and food stops marked for your convenience. The BDR team says it should take four to six days to complete the Adirondacks BDR-X.
Lodging and camping locations are also marked on the interactive Backtrack map, and are also noted on the GPX file, so there's less research required before you decide to embark on this adventure ride.
Similar to the other BDR-X routes that have been previously released, this ride is intended for adventure motorcyclists looking for a local, often shorter and less difficult trip to take on their ADV machines, as opposed to tackling a seven to ten day, predominantly off-road BDR route such as the Washington BDR (WABDR).
