Upset at losing berth, former Andhra Pradesh home minister quits assembly

AMARAVATI: Upset after losing the cabinet berth, former home minister Mekathoti Sucharitha has decided to resign from the Assembly.

She handed over the resignation letter to Rajya Sabha member Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, who reached her residence late on Sunday night, to pacify the former minister. The followers of Sucharitha had in fact obstructed the vehicle of Ramana and raised slogans against the chief minister.

Sucharitha's daughter says they will continue in YSRC

Party leadership rushed Ramana to meet Sucharitha and convince her. However, Sucharitha made up her mind to quit the assembly and handed over the letter to Mopidevi. "The resignation letter has been drafted in the speaker's format and handed over to Rajya Sabha member Mopidevi," Sucharitha's daughter told the media. She, however, said that her mother has decided to resign from Assembly.

She said that they would however, continue in the YSRC. Sources said that Sucharitha's family was particularly hurt as she was the lone Dalit minister to be dropped from the cabinet. Four of the five Dalit ministers in the previous cabinet - P Viswaroop, Taneti Vanitha, Dr Adimulapu Suresh and K Narayana Swamy - were retained in the new team.
