UPI processes Rs 29.9 lakh crore in May; transaction volumes hit 23.2 billion

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI), operated by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), processed transactions worth Rs 29.90 lakh crore in May, up 19% year-on-year (YoY) and 3% month on month (MoM). The total transaction count stood at 23.2 billion, up 4% from 22.35 billion in April 2026.

Daily average transaction volumes rose to 748 million in May from 745 million in April, reflecting higher adoption of UPI for retail consumer payments.
