Updates provided on future of two Nottinghamshire pubs

Updates have been given on the future of two Nottinghamshire pubs. The Malt Shovel in Beeston was saved by Shipstone's Brewery last year.

The Union Street premises had been facing closure in October when its licensees at the time couldn't afford to keep the pub going amid the cost of living crisis. It remained closed for around a month until Shipstone's stepped in.

In a recent update, a spokesperson from owners Star Pubs & Bars told Nottinghamshire Live: "Shipstone's Brewery is currently running the Malt Shovel in Beeston on a temporary agreement. They are interested in leasing the pub on a more permanent basis.

"Once longer term plans for the pub are confirmed, we'll be happy to share them. In the meantime, the Malt Shovel is offering a fantastic range of Shipstone's cask ales, great traditional pub food and a range of activities, such as a quiz and an open mic night."

Star Pubs & Bars has also given an update on the Beacon Hill pub on Barton Road, Carlton, which reopened in November 2021 with a new name and refurbishment, and is currently looking for a new operator. The spokesperson said: "The Beacon Hill at Carlton is open and trading with a temporary publican.

"We should have a new operator in place by the end of February. We’ll be able to confirm all the details and their plans for the pub once the recruitment process is finalised."
