Work is well underway on Nottingham's Christmas market to build this year's new attraction Sky Skate - an ice path over the top of the square. But the question on the lips of fans of the festivities is what is happening about the Christmas lights switch-on?
Following the cancellation of bonfire night, some people have been left wondering when, or if, there's a ceremony happening in the city's Old Market Square. Councils around the country including Guildford and Ely have scrapped the annual switch-on ceremonies that draw thousands of people because they cannot justify the cost. And some towns may not have any festive lights at all due to rising costs.
There is plenty of Christmas cheer in Mansfield, where nineties boy band East 17 will headline at The Big Switch On in the town's Market Place on Sunday, November 27. In Beeston the switch-on will take place on Saturday, December 3. The Frandells, a four-piece band, will kick off the celebrations, before the countdown to the Mayor of Broxtowe , Councillor David Grindell, flicking the switch.
