Concerns have been raised over a planned waterpark which would be just 40 minutes from Nottingham. The development, which would take place in a derelict quarry, would be called the Amber Rock Resort if plans go-ahead.
Plans submitted to Derbyshire County Council detail that the resort would have a 152-bed hotel, 128 straw-bale lodges, an indoor water park, 210 holiday apartments, an indoor/outdoor climbing centre and a heritage centre, a cliff-top restaurant, sports complex and more. The project would create 561 full-time and part-time jobs when it is complete, with 200 people to be employed during the construction stages, the developers said.
A letter from Amber Valley Borough Council says the authority does not object to the plans but that roads around the site would be “unlikely to be able to support such a large-scale development". The borough council also says “the potential for harm to the landscape and heritage assets needs to be explored further”, Derbyshire Live reports.
