The fire service has issued an update after two fires broke out one mile from one another.
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service were called to a fire at a scrapyard on Regent Road at around 4.40pm on Thursday, May 19 and six fire engines went to the scene. Firefighters found a large amount of scrap metal, approximately 30m x 20m in width and 30m high, involved in fire.
Around 20 minutes later the fire service were called to another blaze behind the Asda in Bootle. Crews were called just before 5pm to a derelict property on Irlam Road, Bootle and two fire engines were in attendance as well as an aerial appliance.

Firefighters found a two storey brick built building on fire in Bootle and the first floor and roof space are involved in fire. Crews tackled the fire externally using high pressure hose reel jets.
In an update today, a spokesperson for Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service said for the Irlam Road incident crews remained on scene until 7.25pm and "the incident on Regent Road, Kirkdale, was handed over to the site manager when we left the scene."
They added the cause for both fires "are still under investigation."
