Update after fire rips through house in Newark

An investigation continues into the cause of a fire that ripped through a house in Newark causing the occupants to flee to safety. Fire crews were called to the house fire in Middleton Road at around 4pm on Easter Monday (April 18).

No injuries were reported but neighbours said a man leapt through a window to escape the flames. The house was left significantly damaged as a result of the incident.

In an update, a spokesman for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said that firefighters continued to investigate what happened. He added further information would be issued in due course.

Crews from the Newark, Collingham, Bingham, London Road and Grantham fire stations - including the Aerial Ladder Platform - were called out. At least four ambulances and a police car were also at the scene.
