Upcoming rail strike dates impacting Edinburgh train services as ScotRail issues warning

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) will walk out in November as new strike dates were announced earlier this week.

This comes as ScotRail issued a warning to passengers to expect disruption as RMT ScotRail members are following an overtime ban.

ScotRail have said: "We're doing everything we can to minimise disruption, and to keep customers updated on which services are impacted."

RMT ScotRail Staff will stage a 24-hour strike on Saturday October 29.

ScotRail said: "We have received formal notification from the RMT trade union that its general grades members will take part in 24-hour strike action on Saturday, October 29.

"We are now assessing the impact this will have on our services and working on contingency arrangements. We will update customers as soon as this is complete."

RMT union members including Network Rail will walk out on November 3,5 and 7.

While ScotRail staff are not associated with the strike action in November, Network Rail staff include signallers and without them, trains cannot run and the majority of services across the UK will be cancelled.

Staff from 14 train companies will also strike on the November dates, impacting the following train operators;

  • Chiltern Railways
  • Cross Country Trains
  • Greater Anglia
  • LNER
  • East Midlands Railway
  • c2c
  • Great Western Railway
  • Northern Trains
  • South Eastern
  • South Western Railway
  • Transpennine Express
  • Avanti West Coast
  • West Midlands Trains
  • GTR (including Gatwick Express)

On the day of strike action, October 29, ScotRail will only be able to operate a limited service between 7.30am and 6.30pm on the following routes:

  • Milngavie – Edinburgh via Glasgow Queen Street Low Level: two trains per hour
  • Glasgow – Lanark: one train per hour
  • Glasgow - Larkhall: one train per hour
