LUCKNOW: Counting of votes for nine assembly constituencies in Lucknow will start at 8am on Thursday along with the rest of the state. The people of Lucknow Central will be first to know who will be their MLA for the next five years and Sarojininagar at the last.
According to officials of the district administration, all preparations for the counting of votes at Ramabai Sthal have been completed. The counting of votes of Lucknow Central will be held in 26 rounds followed by Lucknow Cantonment (27), Lucknow East (31), Lucknow West (32), Mohanlalganj (32), Malihabad (32 ) Lucknow North (33), Bakshi-ka-Talab (37) and Sarojininagar (44).
"The district administration has made full arrangements for the safety and security of the staff, venue and counting process. However, officers also need to ensure that any rumour or fake news regarding the process of counting should be checked promptly so that there is no disturbance. The counting rounds depend on the number of polling booths in a particular constituency. The constituency with least number of booths has less rounds in comparison to those which have more booths. The results of Lucknow Central and Lucknow Cantonment are expected to be declared by 4pm, while the counting of votes in the rest of the seats will take more time to complete, they said. Votes of EVMs, postal ballots and service postal ballots will be counted simultaneously. Electronic devices, barring calculators, will not be allowed at the venue. The district magistrate has asked all polling staff to reach the venue by 6 am. The counting of votes will start at 8am. The staff will get a half-an-hour tea break at 9:30am. The first trends of results are expected by 11am. After completion of counting of votes in a constituency, VVPATs of five randomly selected EVMs will be matched with the votes recorded by the machines. A medical camp has been set up at the venue with an ambulance along with a physician and general medicines.
