UP may ease norms for small pharma firms

LUCKNOW: Responding to the grievances of the medicine and drug manufacturers, the food safety and drug administration of Uttar Pradesh lent a patient hearing to the affected party here on Tuesday.

Under the aegis of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers' Association UP (PMAUP), the manufacturers had met chief minister Yogi Adityanath on July 9 and assured adequate action. In pursuance to the CM's cognizance, chief secretary Durga Shankar Mishra met the delegation on July 14.

Subsequently, the state food safety and drug administration called upon PMAUP to discuss and find consensual solutions to the issues raised. The department also invited a similar body, State Drug Manufacturers' Association Lucknow, besides several pharma manufacturer companies from different districts of the state.

A key demand of the association was the relaxation of the mandatory annual turnover clause, as a result of which, many of the small and medium manufacturing units in the state were not able to apply for official tenders. It was met by the government.
