AGRA: An eight-year-old girl was sexually assaulted allegedly by a 52-year-old imam inside a mosque in Kishani area of Mainpuri in UP on Wednesday evening.
The accused has been arrested by the police.
According to police, Jamal Ahmad, who hails from Barabanki, had been staying in the mosque for the past 10 years.
He teaches students of his community and also conducts prayers at the mosque.
On Wednesday evening, he had asked the girl student to stay back for extra class after he had concluded his class with the other students.
Later, the accused took her to a room where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
The victim told her mother about her ordeal after she reached home.
Madhuban Kumar Singh, additional SP, said an FIR has been registered under section 376 (rape) of the IPC and provisions of the POCSO Act at Kishani police station.
The girl has been sent for medical examination and treatment.
