SINGAPORE — Singapore's United Overseas Bank, or UOB, has appointed Tan Choon Hin as ‌head of the Association of Southeast Asia (Asean) and Greater China, effective Sept 1, it said in a statement on Tuesday.

The new role will see Tan, who is currently UOB's deputy chief risk officer, ‌drive the bank's regional business, including its fully-owned subsidiaries in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and mainland China, as well as its branches in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

It comes as UOB seeks to deepen its regional connectivity and capture the growing cross-border flows between Asean and Greater China.

Tan will also ‌oversee the bank's foreign direct investment (FDI) advisory unit, which helps companies seize cross-border growth opportunities by connecting them to ecosystem partners and industry networks across Asean and Greater China.

In the past six months, its FDI advisory unit has supported more than 300 cross-border expansion plans, with projected investments of S$5.6 billion (US$4.38 billion).

Tan will report to UOB's ‌CEO Wee Ee Cheong.
