A keen-eyed Lanarkshire nature enthusiast spotted a species of moth never previously seen before in Scotland.
The sallow-shoot piercer moth ( Cydia servillana ) was spotted perched on a nettle at the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Cathkin Marsh Wildlife Reserve by regular visitor Bill Higgins.
According to the National Biodiversity Network Atlas it had previously only been spotted 29 times and never north of Birmingham.
