An unsigned artist has been hailed as the British version of Taylor Swift after beating the likes of Miley Cyrus and Kylie Minogue in the charts. The unknown pop singer is celebrating after her new single hit number one in the iTunes charts.
Bailey Tomkinson is 20 and does not yet have a record deal or management company. But her country songs have already gained a loyal following on Spotify, where she has thousands of listeners a month.
Her latest track 'Silent Suffering' has also smashed the iTunes country chart and the video now occupies the top spot in the 'all genre' video chart. Bailey, from St Ives, Cornwall, said: "It's so exciting, it's number one in the music video charts. It's the best feeling.
She said: "I wrote this song just before lockdown and worked on it throughout, then recorded it remotely from home because I couldn't get into the studio due to the pandemic. I worked on it with the producer and I'm really happy with the outcome, me and my team have worked so hard on getting it out there and I'm really proud of it.
"I'm not too sure how many views it's had or about numbers, but it's very exciting."
The talented singer has had 'some interest' from the biggest names in the music business. She added: "I'm not sure what's going to happen but it's very exciting."
So far, Bailey has released only a handful of songs but she has received hundreds of thousands of plays online. She added: "I'm working really hard, I've achieved quite a bit already. It's been a lot of hard work and I'll be back in the studio soon.
"My parents have been really supportive, my dad comes from a marketing background and he's been showing me how to get my music out there."
Her last hit single was released in December and went to number two in the charts, and she was beaten only by her idols - the Pussycat Dolls.
