Ghost hunters spent the night in a haunted Welsh pub and say they 'definitely weren't alone'

A spooky TikTok video has captured the experience of two paranormal investigators on their visit to a Welsh pub. The Skirrid Inn has become renowned for its supernatural reputation and is steeped in myths and stories of hauntings. Visiting the pub last Wednesday (October 12) Tony Ferguson, 37, said he could hear voices at the pub - including someone saying his name.

Filmed at the Abergavenny inn, Tony and fellow investigator Beverley Ferguson said they set up a static camera in many of the rooms at the inn. Owners, Geoff and Sharon Fiddler, gave them access to the whole inn, just to themselves. But Tony said: "We definitely weren't alone, let's put it that way."

The main 'resident ghost' thought to haunt the inn is Fannie Price, who died in the 1800s. It is claimed that you can smell lavender perfume before she is seen or sensed. Fannie is thought to have been spotted around a dozen times, often in an upstairs room. Believed to have been in her 30s when she died, it is thought she left children behind. "We called out for Fannie Price, the previous landlady of the inn, and were not disappointed when we received numerous responses from her throughout the night which were caught on camera," Tony, who is from the New Forest, said. "We set up a static camera in many of the rooms, however, in Room One, the camera was knocked over.

He added: "A male voice can be heard saying 'get out' and then whilst the camera is still facing down you can hear and see it being moved, you can also hear a male voice saying "'Fannie'. You can can clearly hear me and Bev in another room talking and setting up other equipment for the night."

Tony, who has been a paranormal investigator for over 20 years, also claimed that, on an earlier visit with fellow paranormal investigator Paul Cissell "our devices were going off on command especially when we were calling out for Fannie Price."

The pair used an app called 'Spirit Talker' which claims to produce "words and speech based on what the sensors in your phone are detecting." In a clip in the video, a voice on the app says, "This was my home," with Tony saying that he's had a "banging headache" since entering the room. The voice on the machine can then be heard saying, "He's here."

"A lot of the words coming out [of the app] were relevant to the Skirrid Inn. I found that quite strange," said Tony. The inn is mainly mid-to-late 17th-century, although some features are thought to date from an even earlier period. It has three letting rooms, two of which are rumoured to have been a court room until around 1640. Room three is where the licensee would have lived. One room at the top of the stairs is thought to be a cell where people were held. In the clip, Tony asks if there are "any male prisoners" and "any ex-workers", with the voice on the machine appearing to respond with "Geoff."

Speaking to WalesOnline last year, landlord Geoff said that, while many customers had reported ghostly sightings, there had been just one malevolent incident, in which a lady who had been in the bath in Room One claimed she had been held under water, but hadn't seen anything. It was one of the rooms Tony and Bev explored on their visit.

"In the bathroom of Room One where a lady was held down and felt like she was being drowned, my name, 'Tony', was called out by a female voice," Tony claimed. "The whole experience in the bathroom of Room One was not very nice. We had many unexplained banging sounds yet we were alone in the pub."

Standing in the room with the bath, Tony said the room "just gives [him] dread, absolute dread," adding that he again has a headache. "Overall, across both visits we captured and experienced many unexplained things which we tried to debunk at the time but were unable to. I have visited many locations in the UK and believe this to be one of the most haunted locations in the UK," Tony said. He added: "All I know is there is something about that place that I can't explain. It's a very strange place to go and visit."
