The head of the UN agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) has reiterated the urgent need for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas to prevent additional suffering and displacement in Gaza. Philippe Lazzarini, the commissioner-general of UNRWA, emphasized the importance of halting the violence to avoid exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation in the region.
Lazzarini warned that an Israeli military offensive would only add to the existing tragedy faced by the people of Gaza, making it even more challenging to address issues such as food insecurity and displacement. He stressed the necessity of an immediate ceasefire to prevent further forced displacement and alleviate the ongoing suffering of the Gazan population.
