Unpaid crew of failed Simon Pegg film to be partly paid by taxpayers

  • The UK government's Redundancy Payments Service (RPS) is set to compensate crew members left unpaid after the independent film Angels in the Asylum halted production.
  • Approximately £600,000 is owed to the crew of the Simon Pegg-starring period drama, which stopped filming in February 2025 due to financial problems.
  • Crew members are not expected to receive the full amount owed, with some anticipating only a third of their wages back from the RPS, which is funded by National Insurance payments.
  • Simon Pegg, who was an executive producer and lead actor, was not paid for his work and had no involvement in the film's finances.
  • The production company, AITA Films, went into administration in April 2025, with creditors now owed around £3.8m, and there are currently no plans to resume filming.
