A 76-year-old dancing lollipop man who says grooving with his son “keeps him young” counts Lizzo and Beyoncé as his fans. Brian Kilgallon started learning dance routines with son Jay Scott, 28, in June 2020.
Their videos have now become so popular they have reached 84 million views. It takes Brian just 25 minutes to pick up a dance and he loves dressing up in Jay’s clothes to film the routines.
Brian, who still works as a lollipop man, says he gets recognised while working and gets people tooting their horns at him. The duo say their dancing keeps their father and son bond close and they are aiming to reach 100 million views this year.
Brian, from Oldbury, West Midlands, said: “It keeps me young. I love it. I didn’t even know who Lizzo is but Beyoncé watches us. When Jay said about TikTok at first I said ‘Is that an ice cream?’
“He’s the best son in the world. I want to show older people that your life doesn’t stop.
“Age is just a number.” Jay, a professional dancer and singer, decided to teach his dad a dance for father’s day in 2020 after not being able to do anything because of the coronavirus pandemic. I put my clothes on him and got him to dance,” Jay said. He added: “I kept filming and teaching him dances and suddenly it blew up.”
The father and son have had Lizzo comment on their videos and Beyoncé is said to watch them. “We show an authentic father and son relationship,” Jay said.
“I think that’s what people connect with.” Brian added: “When I’m working as a lollipop man people stop and toot their horns and say ‘TikTok lollipop man.
“It was mind-boggling to get 84 million views. I wanted to make fame as a footballer. At 76 I never thought this would happen to me.” Commenting on his father's happiness, Jay said: “He’s living his best Hannah Montana life."
The dance duo continue to take TikTok by storm and have hundreds of thousands of fans commenting on their viral TikTok videos. The account @jayscotttttt which has garnered 16.3million likes is filled with appreciation from their legions of fans.
One video that shows Brian looking dapper and wearing a trilby, and Jay in a sleek leather ensemble, even had a fan begging for the father and son to star in a series. @8topyia wrote: "So cute, please make this a series or something. Reminds me when I used to dance with my dad. How I miss him!"
Melody Mixon who is big fan of 'cute' Brian wrote: "Dad is a whole vibe of cuteness overload. Thank you for sharing."
Porshia83, another fan of Brian wrote: "Dad is so freakin adorable" whilst Latina Dawson wrote: "Love daddy's outfit and his energy. Bless you both."
