The Scottish University in Fife where Prince William met his beloved wife Kate Middleton has been placed in the world's top 100 Universities but it has been beaten by another top Scots institution on the list.
St Andrews was ranked at number 95 in the QS World University Rankings 2024 which were published on Tuesday.
However, it failed to beat the prestigious University of Glasgow which finished joint 76th, putting it amongst the top five per cent most elite further education establishments across the globe.
The QS World University Rankings is compiled by analyst Quacquarelli Symonds who uses a portfolio of rankings to compile the league table.
Glasgow performed exceptionally well in terms of academic reputation and international students, the Scottish Daily Express reports.
Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Glasgow, Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli said: "It’s great to once again see the University placing comfortably within the world’s top 100 universities in the 2024 QS World Rankings.
"This is a very strong result, achieved despite the ever-increasing competition across the globe, and we can be proud of this success. Results like these are built on the collective efforts of many colleagues, and I’d like to offer my sincere thanks and appreciation for all those who helped deliver this success."
St Andrew's is Scotland's oldest university and is where the future King and Queen met while carrying out their studies there.
Prince William fell in love with his fellow History of Art student Kate Middleton who famously participated in a university fashion show where she wore a sheer black dress that showed off her underwear.
Filming for the next season of The Crown took place in the picturesque town this year featuring Meg Bellamy who plays the Princess of Wales as a student and Ed McVey as the young Prince who eventually switched to study geography.
This year marks the 17th year in a row that St Andrews University has been featured in the top 100 further education institutions in the world.
St Andrews’ Principal, Professor Dame Sally Mapstone, FRSE, said: "These are impressive results for a small Scottish university to be competing amongst the very best in the world.
"The research-led teaching and unique student experience on offer at St Andrews are what sets us apart.
"I am particularly delighted at the remarkable gains made by St Andrews in the newest metric focusing on sustainability.
"We want to be known as a university which practises what it preaches by placing sustainability at the heart of all we do.
"To see this reflected in the rankings is an endorsement of our determined commitment to sustainability.
"The global strengths of Scottish universities are something which we should be proud of, and I am pleased to see Scotland is well represented within these results.
