University tower block to be demolished under plans for huge new student village in Fallowfield

The landmark Owens Park Tower could be demolished under new plans for Manchester University's Fallowfield campus. University bosses have unveiled proposals to replace existing accommodation with what they describe as 3,300 'new bedspaces' on the site covering Owens Park, Oak House and Woolton Hall.

The announcement comes as a rent strike and protests about the cost of living and studying at Manchester University rumble on. In 2020 a group of students occupied Owens Park Tower, barricading themselves in on the top floor, as part of the protests.
