University of Georgia Police have identified a person of interest in the death of nursing student Lakin Hope Riley, a 22-year-old who went for a run and never returned. Her body was discovered near a lake on the University of Georgia's main campus in Athens.

Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the development of the person of interest lead. However, an active investigation is underway on the campus, with detectives seen collecting evidence and utilizing canines to search the area. Investigators have been focusing on a dumpster across the street from the scene, indicating a multi-agency involvement in the case.

The university spokesman highlighted the strong sense of community at the institution, emphasizing the support and unity among faculty, staff, students, and visitors during challenging times.
