University of Cumberlands to match largest private gift in school history

A southern Kentucky university recently received the largest gift in school history – 25 million dollars. Leslie Ryser is the University of the Cumberlands’ executive vice president for Institutional Advancement. She said the O. Wayne Rollins Foundation has been a university partner for more than 40 years.

“We're incredibly grateful for the commitment that they've made to our university. They have been instrumental in supporting our efforts to empower students, and ensure that they have the opportunity to obtain a college degree.”

The university’s main campus is in Whitley County, with a smaller one in northern Kentucky. The school boasts 19-thousand on-campus and online students – the third most in the state. Ryser said there’s more good news for Cumberlands’ students.

“The university is going to be matching this gift dollar for dollar bringing the total investment in new scholarships two $50 million and this investment scholarships is a continuation of the university's commitment to make education affordable in the past several years.”

Ryser said scholarship details are still being worked out. I’m John McGary.
