University of Bristol library 'flooded with faeces'

A university library had to close due to reports it was "flooded with poo" over the weekend.

The University of Bristol confirmed a blocked drain caused some flooding at their arts and social sciences library. Despite reports the library was "flooded with poo", the university wouldn't confirm the nature of the flooding.

A University of Bristol spokesperson said: “A blocked drain in our Arts and Social Sciences Library caused some flooding which meant the library had to close yesterday afternoon.

“The blockage was quickly fixed and the areas affected have been cleaned. There has been some minor damage in the basement area which we are assessing but the library itself is open again as usual this morning.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused students wishing to use the facilities yesterday.”

On its website, the university says: "The situation with the drains has been resolved and the toilets in the building are accessible again.

"Access to Special Collectons will be restricted as our team works to clear up the Lower Ground Floor area following yesterday's incident."
