University Challenge viewers swoon over 'hottest contestant ever' to appear on BBC show

University Challenge viewers were left swooning over the 'hottest contestant ever' to grace the BBC game show.

BBC viewers felt themselves getting hot under the collar when teams from the University of Sheffield and University College London took to the panel in the first round match.

And as host Jeremy Paxman introduced London graduate Louis Collier to the show, Twitter was awash with 'thirsty' comments about the student.

Louis, who was studying a PGCE specialising in maths and physics, sent tongues wagging thanks to his striking looks and choice of leather jacket as he whizzed through the questions.

It didn't take long for eagle-eyed viewers to share their delight over easy-on-the-eyes Louis who was a professional at the quiz game.

"Louis is a bit of me," one BBC viewer quipped, while a second echoed: "OMG the hottest man to ever grace the show. Wish the contestants always looked like that."

"Yum!!! Louis is way to easy on the eyes! The leather jacket omg," someone else swooned.

"Collier is the fittest guy to ever be on this show #universitychallenge," added another fan.

While another enthused viewer tweeted: "Collier is the kind of guy you would want to take home to your parents. #UniversityChallenge".

The latest University Challenge instalment comes after Jeremy Paxton announced that he will be stepping down from the show after an incredible 28 years.

The presenter, 72, has presented the BBC show since 1994.

Jeremy will film his last episode this autumn and his final series will air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer from Monday 29 August until next summer.

Announcing his departure from the show in August, Jeremy gushed over his 'amazing team' as he insisted that he has great hopes for the future amid his ongoing Parkinson's battle.

“I’ve had a blast hosting this wonderful series for nearly 29 years," he penned.

"I’ve been lucky enough to work with an amazing team and to meet some of the swottier brains in the country. It gives me hope for the future.”

Addressing Jeremy's departure from the long-running show, BBC’s Director of Unscripted, Kate Phillips, said: “Since the BBC revived University Challenge in 1994 Jeremy has been at the front and centre of the show’s success and is without doubt one of the world’s finest, and most formidable quizmasters.

"We are hugely grateful to Jeremy for his dedication to the programme for an incredible 28 years, he will be much missed by us all and the show’s millions of viewers.”

Jeremy has been battling Parkinson's disease in recent years.

The broadcaster revealed his diagnosis in May 2021.
