Universal Studios Makes Huge Changes That Guests Will Not Like

Fans of Walt Disney World's theme parks have been pleased with the return of Annual Passes after the company suspended sales during the covid pandemic, brought them back in September 2021 only to suspend them again two months later.

Lake Buena Vista, Fla.-based Disney World opened sales on April 20 for its Incredi-Pass with reservation-based admission and no blockout dates, plus 20% discounts for select dining and merchandise, for $1,399. The Disney Sorcerer Pass for Florida residents and Disney Vacation Club members, with reservation-based admission most days and blockout dates during certain holiday periods, are $969.

Disney's (DIS) Pirate Pass for Florida residents with reservation-based admission most days with blockout dates at peak and holiday periods is $749, and Disney Pixie Dust Pass is available for Florida residents with reservation-based admission most weekdays with blockout dates at peak and holiday periods, is $399.

The House of Mouse reminds guests that the quantity of passes will be limited and passes, or a pass type, may become unavailable for purchase at any time.

Disney World already increased its daily theme park admission prices in November 2022, which now range from $109 for the lowest price on a low demand day to $189 on a high demand day. At Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif., the theme park in October 2022 raised its highest demand ticket $15 from $164 to $179 but kept its lowest price unchanged at $104.

Universal Studios Raises Annual Pass Prices 

Comcast's (CMCSA) Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort have now increased their prices for various annual passes offered to local and statewide residents, as well as non-residents. Universal Orlando raised the price of its non-Florida resident, two-park annual Premier Pass by $150 dollars, from $754.99 to $904.99, Universal Parks News Today reported. The Premier Pass has no blackout dates and includes free parking and Universal Express after 4 p.m. at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.

The Preferred Pass, which includes no blackout dates but doesn't include free parking or Universal Express, increased $90 from $539.99 to $629.99 for non-Florida residents. The theme park's Power Pass at $474.99 and the Seasonal Pass at $424.99 had no price change.

The Two-Park Annual passes for Florida residents are a bargain compared to non-residents, but Premier Passes rose $150 from $639.99 to $789.99 and Preferred Passes increased $90 from $439.99 to $529.99. Power Passes at $374.99 and Seasonal Passes at $324.99 were unchanged. Monthly FlexPay payment options with automatic renewal are available for each pass.

Universal Studios Hollywood raised its Platinum Annual Pass by $50 from $579 to $629 at the gate or $569 to $619 online, WDW News Today reported. the Platinum Pass includes free parking, no blackout dates, a 15% food, beverage and merchandise discount, Universal Express after 3 p.m. and a free Halloween Horror Nights ticket on select nights.

For a Gold Pass, with blackout dates, free parking and 15% food, beverage and merchandise discount, Universal Hollywood raised the price $20 from $309 to $329 at the gate or from $299 to $319 online. The basic Silver Pass with blackout dates increased $10 to $239 at the gate or $229 online. Monthly FlexPay payment options with automatic renewal are also available for these passes.

Costco Has Universal Season Pass Deals

All passes include general admission discounts for friends and family, along with discounted Halloween Horror Nights tickets and 10% to 15% discounts at participating CityWalk locations.

Costco often offers Universal Studios theme park annual pass deals for California or Florida residents. In California, Costco in January was selling season pass tickets to Universal Studios Hollywood that covered over 210 days with blackout dates for $159.99. Today, a season pass can be purchased for the park at Costco for $179.99. Costco members can check their local store in the Golden State or Sunshine State to see whether season passes are available.
