The CEO of UnitedHealthcare’s parent company expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Chief Executive Brian Thompson in a video message to employees on Wednesday. Thompson was fatally shot by a gunman outside a Manhattan hotel while on his way to attend UnitedHealthcare’s annual investor conference.
In the video, UnitedHealth Group CEO Andrew Witty described Thompson as an “extraordinary person” and emphasized the profound impact he had within the organization and beyond. Witty acknowledged the shock and disbelief felt by the company following the devastating incident and extended his thoughts and prayers to Thompson’s family.
