The fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was described as a 'brazen, targeted attack' by NYPD commissioner Jessica Tisch during a press briefing. The incident occurred as Thompson was en route to his company's investor conference at a hotel.
According to Tisch, the gunman had been 'lying in wait' for several minutes before approaching Thompson from behind. The assailant then proceeded to shoot Thompson at least once in the back and once in the right calf. Tisch noted that despite the presence of other individuals in the vicinity, the gunman specifically targeted Thompson.
