Vice President Kamala Harris is nearing the decision on her running mate, with United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain voicing his support for Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. Fain emphasized that a Harris-Beshear ticket would be formidable, citing their dynamic qualities as candidates.
Regarding Gov. Walz, Fain praised his strong advocacy for labor, stating that both Beshear and Walz are top choices for the UAW if they had to make a selection.
However, Fain expressed reservations about Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro due to his stance on school vouchers and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly's position on the PRO Act, a bill that extends collective-bargaining rights to independent contractors. Sen. Kelly had previously indicated support for the legislation, despite initial concerns about certain provisions.
Fain criticized former President Donald Trump for his perceived lack of support for union workers and his focus on wealthy donors over blue-collar workers. The United Auto Workers officially endorsed Vice President Harris last week, underscoring the union's influence in the crucial battleground state of Michigan.
