United Airlines forced to clarify ticket policy after internal memo sparked confusion

  • Palm Beach International Airport in Florida was officially renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport, a move that has generated significant public reaction and concern among some travelers.
  • An internal United Airlines memo, later described by the airline as “poorly worded and not accurate,” initially suggested that reservation agents could offer passengers flight changes to alternative airports if they did not wish to fly into the newly named facility.
  • United Airlines clarified its official policy , stating that while customers can change tickets without a fee for many reasons, an airport's name or three-letter code change is not a valid basis for a fee-free exchange.
  • The airport's code will transition from PBI to DJT on August 18, but airport officials have assured the public that all airline operations, routes, schedules, and customer services will remain unaffected by the name change.
  • The renaming has prompted strong reactions from the public, with numerous social media comments indicating traveler dissatisfaction and intentions to use alternative airports, despite the Trump Organization stating it would receive no financial benefit from the change.
