Unions launch legal bid to stop boss behind P&O sacking scandal getting seat on the board

Unions have launched a legal bid to stop a boss behind the P&O sackings scandal getting a seat on the board.

Jesper Kristensen approved the ferry company’s decision to make 800 seafarers redundant, without negotiation in March and replace them with low-paid agency staff.

The Dubai-based chief operations officer for parent company DP World was then appointed to the P&O board in August.

But the TUC is urging the Insolvency Service regulator to block the move.

General secretary Frances O’Grady said: “Given his central role in these shameful events, Mr Kristensen is an inappropriate person to be undertaking director’s duties.

“This reward for illegally sacking workers is a grave insult to the dismissed seafarers.”

P&O and DP World declined to comment.
