Union J announce Newcastle reunion show to celebrate 10-year milestone

A special reunion of Union J has been announced in a move which will delight fans, especially those in Newcastle which is one of just five locations picked to host a new show.

The boyband, which broke up in 2016 but got together for a 10-year anniversary celebration at The London Palladium earlier this year, will reunite again next summer for a handful of exclusive gigs to mark the 10-year anniversary of their first single. And they say "it's going to be amazing".

The original four members - JJ Hamblett, Jaymi Hensley, George Shelley and Josh Cuthbert – will be launching their mini tour at the O2 City Hall and tickets for the show will be on sale next week.

The band - first formed by Louis Walsh on ITV hit The X Factor in 2012 - has had four UK Top 10 singles and a debut Top 10 album, winning a 'best British breakthrough' accolade at the BBC Teen Awards. The four went on to sell out arena shows and made their Hollywood debut as 'heartthrobs' in the Kick-Ass 2 film, performing their hit single Carry You.

And, with Jun e 2023 set to mark the 10-year anniversary of Carry You's release, JJ, Jaymi, George and Josh will be taking to the road for their five dates across England and Scotland. Newcastle 's show will be on May 26 and tickets go on sale on December 16.

Their other dates are in Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Glasgow. The band also supported Christina Aguilera on her UK arena tour this year following the London event but the reunion tour promises to be a rare chance for fans countrywide to catch up with the four favourites.

They said: " This is going to be amazing. We had such a brilliant night at The London Palladium so now to be going out across the country so we can connect with so many more fans is a brilliant opportunity and one we are really looking forward to."

They added: "This year marked the first time we had performed together in six years but it was like we had never been apart. It felt so good to be back on stage as a four-piece so spring needs to hurry up so we can do it all over again.”

Previous visits to the region have even seen the singers invited to turn on Christmas lights in Northumberland and they also include a starring role for Jaymi Hensley in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle.

Union J's 2023 reunion tour dates

Friday, May 26 - O2 City Hall Newcastle

Saturday, May 27 - Manchester Opera House

Sunday, May 28 - Glasgow Theatre Royal

Wednesday, May 31 - Birmingham Symphony Hall

Tickets for the tour will go on sale at 9am on Friday, December 16. Keep an eye out here.
