Unexploded bomb found as Scots building site shut down and trains cancelled

Emergency services have rushed to a Scots building site after an unexploded bomb was found.

An exclusion zone has been implemented around the construction site on Springfield Road in Barrhead after police were called around 10am on Thursday.

The road has been closed while officers wait for the bomb squad to attend.

Train services between Neilston and Muirend have been scrapped following the discovery as the line runs close to the building site.

Replacement busses are now running from both stations.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received a report of an unexploded ordnance having been found at a construction site on Springfield Road in Barrhead around 10.05am on Thursday, 29 September, 2022.

“The road is closed and a cordon is in place. EOD have been contacted.”

Network Rail said: "The railway between Neilston and Muirend is closed due to an unexploded bomb being found on a building site close to the line.

"Local police have implemented an exclusion zone for safety reasons, which includes a section of track."

ScotRail added: "An unexploded bomb on a building site near the railway has closed the Muirend to Neilston line.

"You can use your tickets on the number 3, 54 and 103 buses while the situation is defused. We're also getting replacement buses organised."
