Undrafted rookie WR unlikely to make NFL debut vs. Bills

The final injury report will come out later on Friday, but one Arizona Cardinals rookie on the active roster is not expected to play in their season opener on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon said that undrafted rookie receiver Xavier Weaver, who missed Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s practices with an oblique injury, will likely be unavailable.

That means his NFL debut will have to wait at least a week.

Weaver made an impact in the offseason, training camp and the preseason, especially as a kick returner. As the Cardinals’ priority undrafted rookie free agent, he was one of six receivers to make the active roster.

The Cardinals and Bills kick off from Highmark Stadium on Sunday at 10 a.m. Arizona time.
