Uncle of Menendez Brothers Breaks with Family, Says They're Lying About Being Molested and Should Stay in Prison: 'That Is a Fabrication'

Most of Erik and Lyle Menendez's family members agree the brothers should be released for the 1989 slaying of their parents but not their mother, Kitty's, brother who says they're greedy and lied about being molested.

Kathy Cady, a victim's right attorney, is representing Kitty's 90-year-old brother, Milton Andersen, who believes his nephews should at the very least serve their life sentences for killing his younger sister, Eyewitness News reported

"Mr. Andersen firmly believes that his nephews were not molested," Cady told Eyewitness News. "He believes that is a fabrication and he believes that the motive was pure greed."

Erik and Lyle were 18 and 21, respectively, when they used shotguns to kill both of their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion more than 40 years ago. They claimed they did it out of self defense because they were sexually abused by their father, Jose. But Anderson still doesn't buy it.

"At the time of the trial, at least according to the court of appeal opinion, one of the brothers said that killing her was—quote—a mercy killing," Cady added.

Cady added she believes Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón is using the brothers' case to drum up support for his re-election. She said her client hopes that "whatever decision is made, that it's not politically driven, that it really is done because of the right reasons."

The Menendez brothers were convicted and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in 1996.
