It's been six years since Uncharted 4: A Thief's End ended Nathan Drake’s adventures as a treasure hunter on the Playstation 4.
But with a new generation of gamers and an even more powerful system, now is probably the best time to relive one of most critically acclaimed games for the Playstation.
Looking to fully utilise the Playstation 5 advanced features, developers Naughty Dog have re-released Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy in a brand new bundle called Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection.
If you’re not familiar with the Uncharted series, the games follow protagonist Nathan Drake who finds himself caught up in a series of life and death adventures, while trying to retrieve some valuable treasure.
Each of the Uncharted games delivered blockbuster scripts that were full of intense action sequences and great characters.
A Thief's End was the final part of Nathan's tale that saw him hang up his boots and settle down with his love interest Elena Fisher.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy was an expansion for A Thief's End and the only game as it stands to not feature Nathan Drake as the protagonist.
This time around fellow treasure hunter Chloe Frazer took centre stage in another thrilling adventure that featured all the highs the series is known for.
The stories remain the same in the Legacy of Thieves Collection with no added extra content, which isn’t a deal-breaker as this remaster will be a great way to experience these classic titles.
Both titles were simply stunning when released on the Playstation 4 and really show what the console could achieve working at full capacity.
The Legacy of Thieves Collection takes it up a notch and allows players to experience the games in three new visual modes which include Fidelity Mode, Performance Mode and Performance+ Mode.
Fidelity Mode, which has been seen on a number of games on the Playstation 5 allows players to experience the game in 4K running at 30fps.
The game looked stunning with a lot more clarity and sharpness than its predecessor on the Playstation 4.
Performance Mode seemed to display at my televisions highest resolution which is 4K, running at 60fps and I have to say this was my preferred mode, as there was just no beating the super-smooth frame rate during those high octane action scenes.
The visual quality was very similar if not the same as Fidelity Mode on my TV but the 60fps just made it far a superior experience.
I wasn’t able to test out Performance+ Mode as this requires a compatible 120hz display to run at 120fps.
Overall Legacy of Thieves Collection visually lives up to expectations and really makes the most out of the Playstation 5 powerful hardware.
The Uncharted series featured stellar voice acting and is only improved with the 3D audio which really elevates each cinematic cutscene.
The 3D audio also accentuates all the smaller details like creeks in the door, footsteps and even underwater audio during diving segments.
The gameplay remains unchanged with all playable characters returning with their brazen brawling moves and slick shooting skills.
But this time around the players have the new DualSense controller at their fingertips.
However, I have to say the adaptive triggers that weren't utilised as well as other remasters such as Ghost of Tsushima or Death Stranding.
Shooting guns and throwing grappling hooks felt pretty much the same as they did on the Playstation four.
The Haptic feedback on the other hand works like a charm, the player will literally feel every movement from punches, gunfire, parkour and even moving items.
The controller was really responsive with the haptic feedback being one of the highlights of this remaster.
Players will also be able to transfer their save data effortlessly from the Playstation Four to and continue where they left off.
One big missing feature is multiplayer which was a huge feature for the original games, so it seems like a weird omission to include one of the best features this time around.
Verdict
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is visually a great way to experience these two games alongside the great audio, especially for newcomers.
But if enhanced graphics and audio isn’t really your thing, then there really isn’t much to warrant a return if you have already completed it on the Playstation 4.
The omission of the multiplayer means players won’t be able to experience one of the best parts of the game.
