A brand new Star Wars game is coming from Skydance New Media, led by division president Amy Hennig, creative director and lead writer for the first three Uncharted games.
This is the second Star Wars project that Hennig has been involved with following the cancellation of Visceral Games’ Project Ragtag in 2019. Hennig left Visceral Games and EA that year to join Skydance New Media.
“I’ve often described how seeing Star Wars in 1977 essentially rewired my 12-year-old brain, shaping my creative life and future indelibly,” said Hennig. “I’m elated to be working with Lucasfilm Games again to tell interactive stories in this galaxy that I love.”
The new game is confirmed to be a cinematic action-adventure game, which aptly describes the Uncharted titles that Hennig has worked on in the past, though there’s no estimated release date for the new Star Wars game yet.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working again with Amy. She and the Skydance New Media team have the talent and ambition to create a unique Star Wars adventure,” said Lucasfilm Games vice president, Douglas Reilly. “Their vision for making inviting, cinematic interactive entertainment makes this collaboration very exciting. We’re working hard with their team of experienced and talented developers, and we’re looking forward to sharing more with Star Wars fans when the time is right.”
Nothing else is currently known about the new project and Skydance New Media is a new studio that has not released a game yet, though in late 2021 the team confirmed production had begun on a Marvel title, with Hennig then saying; “I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game.”
Hennig is joined at Skydance New Media by executive vice president and GM Julian Beak, who has worked on Battlefield: Hardline, Need for Speed (2015), and LittleBigPlanet Karting among many more. “We couldn’t be happier to be working with Lucasfilm Games,” said Beak. “We look forward to taking fans on an epic journey with this Star Wars action-adventure title.”
Star Wars fans will be rewarded heavily in the coming years. We know that Jedi: Fallen Order 2 is in production along with two other games at Respawn Entertainment, and gamers recently got treated to Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. But Battlefront 3 isn’t happening, unfortunately.
