Matildas coach Joe Montemurro has hailed captain Sam Kerr's leadership and selflessness as the superstar striker prepares for her first game on home soil in almost two years.

Montemurro also expects injured gun Mary Fowler to be back playing in January as she ramps up her ACL rehabilitation before next March's Asian Cup.
