Unai Emery explains why he has allowed Danny Ings’ Aston Villa exit ahead of £12m West Ham move

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has explained why he has allowed striker Danny Ings to join West Ham United for £12million.

Ings is set for a medical on Thursday ahead of a move from Villa Park to the London Stadium in a deal worth up to £15m including potential add-ons.

David Moyes’ side are keen to add more strikers to their ranks. As well as Ings nearing a move, they also have an offer in for Lorient striker Terem Moffi worth up to £25m, including add-ons.

Explaining why Villa have allowed Ings, who has six Premier League goals this season, to join the Hammers, Emery was full of praise for the 30-year-old but has said that the offer West Ham made was a very good one.

“He will sign with West Ham,” Emery said in his press conference on Thursday afternoon.

“His commitment was amazing here, with his teammates and he helped to better our performance.

“I decided to let him go, because I think for him it was a very good offer, for the club as well.”

Ings is set to be West Ham’s first senior signing of the window, having already completed a move for Sao Paulo centre-back Luizao. The 20-year-old however is currently in Mark Robson’s under-21s squad, having made his debut for them earlier this month during a win over Everton.
