UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser on Libya Stephanie Williams made on Sunday a surprise visit to the city of Sabratha, where she was greeted by the Boy Scouts before meeting with the mayor, as well as members of the municipal council, and representatives from the Council of Elders and Notables.
Williams said she “stressed the importance of strengthening consensus in the political process and fostering trust among the various parties.”
“I reiterated my call to preserve calm in the country, avoid hateful rhetoric, and prioritize the broader interests of the Libyan people.”
She also “reiterated the critical need to preserve dialogue and avoid any provocative rhetoric that may compromise the calm on the ground and the progress achieved in the intra-Libyan dialogue.”
On Saturday, she met with a group of members of the House of Representatives from several cities in western Libya. They expressed their concerns about the impact of a possible political crisis on the stability of the country and presented their proposals on the way forward.
She stressed the need to preserve the calm and support the political consensus, putting the best interest of all Libyans at the forefront.
