Israel's military has expressed deep concern after two UN peacekeepers were injured in southern Lebanon on Friday. A peacekeeper from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon was hit by gunfire at its headquarters in the city of Naqoura. The injured peacekeeper underwent surgery to remove the bullet and is currently in stable condition. The origin of the fire is still unknown.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the peacekeepers were inadvertently hurt during combat against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. The IDF is conducting a thorough review at the highest levels of command to determine the details of the incident.
This incident marks the fifth member of the UN force injured in southern Lebanon in just two days, drawing international condemnation. A joint statement from 40 countries, including the UK, France, India, Germany, and Spain, strongly condemned the recent attacks on peacekeepers in Lebanon.
