The head of the United Nations issued a rebuke to Israel as he condemned the use of “excessive force” following the military operation in the West Bank.
During the two-day offensive in the Jenin refugee camp, at least 12 Palestinians were killed and many more injured - one Israeli soldier also died.
“I strongly condemn all acts of violence against civilians, including acts of terror,” UN secretary general, Antonio Guterres said.
“It applies to all use of excessive force, and obviously in this situation, there was an excessive force used by Israeli forces.”
Mr Guterres then went further to call on Israel “to abide by its obligations under international law” to use restraint and proportional force.
Any use of airstrikes, however, are “inconsistent with the conduct of law enforcement operations” he added.
Following the end of the military operation on Thursday, a Hamas militant shot and killed an Israeli soldier near the settlement of Kedumim.
Israeli forces also said two Palestinians suspected of carrying out attacks against the police this week were shot and killed in the town of Nablus.
That was just the latest in the violence in the area after Israel launched its operation on the camp which claimed was a hotspot for training terrorists.
Separately, Hamas said one of its militants rammed a car into a crowded Tel Aviv bus stop before stabbing and wounding eight people, including a pregnant woman.
