The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has strongly condemned a deadly Israeli airstrike that targeted a UN-run school in the Nuseirat Refugee Camp in central Gaza. The strike, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, resulted in the tragic loss of lives, with reports indicating that among the casualties, 14 were children.
A spokesperson for the secretary-general, Stéphane Dujarric, emphasized the sanctity of UN premises, stating that they are inviolable, even during times of armed conflict, and must be safeguarded by all parties involved. Guterres has called on all parties to uphold the protection of civilians and ensure that their basic needs are met, in compliance with international humanitarian law.
